Anglers will be gratified to learn that Sooke offers some of the best salmon fishing in the world, and is also known for world-class halibut fishing. Several fishing charters located a 30-minute drive from SookePoint Ocean Cottage Resort; take your pick and prepare for a meditative day on the ocean as you anticipate the tug of a 50-pound salmon or 200-pound halibut
If you’re visiting in the fall and early winter, you might be treated to one of Mother Nature’s most mesmerizing shows: thunderous storms that rise when low-pressure systems move northward. As the system curves east, pressure rapidly drops, bringing wild winds, torrential rainfall and waves soaring up to 25 feet. Your cottage is the best place in the region to watch the swells, with the powerful ocean rising right outside your window. However, if you want to diversify your viewing spots, consider making the drive to Botany Bay, where a 10-minute stroll through the rainforest leads to some of the best storm-watching panoramas anywhere.
Hikers will be thrilled to find more than 50 kilometres of trails in East Sooke Regional Park, located right next to SookePoint Ocean Cottage Resort. The park is an idyllic space for the whole clan to explore, with trails spanning a range of distances and required fitness levels. Adventurers will also find pocket beaches, rocky bays and tide pools, as well as spectacular views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountains. After taking a meditative forest walk, return to the resort and sip a glass of wine while looking out to the expansive ocean spread just outside your door.
